My untitled baby nephew has arrived! He took his time, but I’m glad he did so that I could take part in his beautiful birth. And now for a name.
It’s hard to name things, especially names that matter. And he needs three! We’ve been pouring over dictionaries (Japanese, Spanish, English…), the Swedish calendar (I like countries that celebrate Name Days)… but nothing yet. And I think a good name is important, if your name isn’t right for you, things are just going to be off. Though I think to a degree you name has some effect on your character and the course of your life. I like K’s and M’s for boys names, baby’s mama likes L’s and A’s… so we’re hard at work. I’ve always enjoyed having a unique name, we all have Swedish names. And between our two families, he sort of needs a unique name, or he’ll stick out from the rest of us. But hopefully he’ll just tell us what his name should be. Barely three days old, but his already starting to give a good sense of his character.
In spite of my unique name (well, unique in the US, not so much in Sweden), one of my mom’s childrens’ song books has a song about it which always made me feel special, seeing as I never came across my name emblazoned across toys or name tags… And I think it fits with my character quite well.
"My name is Annika, yes, tra-la-la, and almost always am I happy, tra-la-la. I have a mother so sweet, who for me sings each eve, tra-la-la, tra-la-la…"
